4 Expert Business Podcasts That will Leave You Begging For More!

I am completely and utterly podcast obsessed! Podcasts have fast become my number one way of consuming media. I love how accessible they are, the diversity in listening choices and most of all I like that they cater for multi-tasking.

Whilst I listen to plenty of podcasts for entertainment I also subscribe to several interesting business podcasts. I’m going to share some of my favourites below:

How I Built This: NPR

A podcast about entrepreneurs, innovators and dreamers, and the stories behind the empires they have built. Host Guy Raz chats to a well-known entrepreneur each week as they share their success stories. Featuring guests such as TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie, Instagram’s Kevin Systrom & Mike Krieger and Drybar’s Alli Webb, there is a real diversity in businesses and business owners that are featured.

Top listening: my personal favourite is the episode with Spanx founder Sara Blakely, a truly inspirational journey to success.

Social Media Marketing

Michael Stelzner of Social Media Examiner is well known to those within the digital marketing world. His podcast, Social Media Marketing aims to help listeners discover ‘what works’ within the world of social media marketing. Each week Stelzner interviews a leading industry expert on a wide variety of digital topics from video strategies, Facebook advertising, influencer marketing and more. Educational in nature, it’s very rare that you could listen to an episode of this podcast and not take away at least one nugget of new and valuable information.

Top listening: it’s a hard one… There are so many good episodes and I’ve been listening for years! Two that stand out are recent episodes ‘Thought Leadership: How to Become Known to People Who Matter’ with Mark Schaefer and one featuring home grown talent Nathan Chan with, ‘Building a Business on the Back of Interviews.’

Open for Business

Speaking of home grown talent… Open for Business is hosted by regional entrepreneur Anthony Murphy. Each episode of this podcast features an Aussie entrepreneur who has the opportunity to share their journey. One of my favourite things about this podcast is the diversity of the interviewee’s success stories. Some have found huge success whilst others are still in the start up phase. The size and scale of each journey also varies.

Top listening: The Merrymaker Sisters of course! These two ladies host their own podcast so it’s nice to hear them in a different space.

  • Disclaimer: I was a guest on this podcast back in 2015.

ProBlogger Podcast: Blog Tips to Help You Make Money Blogging

Aussie King of blogging Darren Rowse shares his top tips on how to monetise your blogging ventures. This podcast really varies, sometimes there is an interview with another industry leader and other times Rowse narrates the episode and that provides a bit of a mix for the audience. This podcast has a similar educational slant to the Social Media Marketing podcast mentioned above. You will always learn something new and actionable.

Top listening: A recent episode ‘A Free Tool to Create Videos for Your Facebook Page’ shared a really clever video tool. We have had a quick play in the Social Concepts office but haven’t had a chance to deep dive into this tool yet but loved learning about the opportunities available to create video quickly and easily. Thanks, ProBlogger!

There are about 10 or so other business podcasts I listen to regularly and a handful of others I listen to on the odd occasion but the ones listed are my favourite.

If you aren’t listening to podcasts yet I highly suggest you start by listening to one of the ones I’ve shared here.

Do you regularly listen to podcasts? I’d love to hear what your favourite business podcast listening is.
